The scene about the painting "Der Mann in dem Goldhelm" [The Man in the Golden Helmet] opens with the Overture to Jean-Baptiste Lully's 1660 ballet Xerxes. Lully was a contemporary of the painter Rembrandt, and this ballet was composed at about the same time that the painting was probably created.
